Ruchika confided in me and told me that though she loves reading books it is seldom does she ever complete it or has any inclination to find out how the story ends. This behavior was strange until I wore my invisible hat, which gives me a secret insight into other people’s minds. What was the reason for Ruchika’s behavior?
1. She always finds a stronger distraction?
2. She is too lazy to read?
3. Her curious mind prefers the sense of wandering and the unknown?
I thought, possibly all of the above. This triggered a new question in my mind, why do people make resolutions as soon as the year starts and somewhere as they move along, leave their resolutions behind? Is it -
a) There is a temptation or a stronger distraction?
b) Are they too lazy to stick to their resolutions?
c) They think if they carried their resolution to the end,
1. They would have the weight of it on their chest, like a soldier’s medal and every year to uphold its greatness, they will have to make new resolutions and work harder to carry it to its end?
2. They would become boring to the world and only those who fall off their chosen path bear any interest or sympathy to the people? They would lose their peace of mind and sleep and may be they would lose their friends on the way, because its hard work, dedication and will power, and will call for sacrifices?
Hmmm…I pondered hard, until I realized it does not matter if I make or did not make a resolution this year. Like if you turned a vegetarian, the world does not stop killing chickens or eating meat. Resolutions will always be made and resolutions will be mostly broken. But let’s find out what resolutions our chosen Desis have made for this year As I crossover 2005, here are some of the New Year resolutions that I really need to repeat:
Travel - Find people to car-pool or else dress in pure wool to walk into NYC.
Luck - I need to buy lottery tickets at a more ‘luckier’ store.
TV - Stop watching six soap operas in a row and then get confused between Buffy & Jassi!
Food - With so much cloning going on, I really need to watch what I eat this year and lastly, I should at the least exercise ‘mentally’ by driving past a gym every month!
